A Quick Jaunt to a Fun Haunt

0

If you’re ever in the mood for a quick and spooky trip or maybe want a nice meal in a haunted tavern, King’s Tavern in Natchez, MS is your place. Whether you truly believe in ghosts or not, it’s a historical site and has loads of atmosphere!

It was built in 1789 and was once used as  a post office. It’s the site of many deaths (murders and the boring ones as well). Be sure to check out their website for more info.
I’ve gone there as a tourist to eat and enjoy the environment. I have also gone  as part of a ghost hunting group. The level of EMF meter readings in there is through the roof. Maybe there is a logical explanation, but either way, a quick tour of the upstairs bedrooms will leave you with the willies.

Be sure and ask the staff about how many dishes mysteriously end up broken on the floor.

And you might as well look up all of the other haunts in the Natchez area while you’re there…

The Bloody Pond

Like many others, my first trip to Shiloh National Park, was due to a school field trip. But a morbid fascination with the aftermath of the Civil War kept me going back through the years. I’ve probably been around a dozen times. I still regard it with the same quiet reverence as I always have. The whole place brings me into a weird meditative state as I take in the park a piece at a time, but nothing quite fascinates me as much as the bloody pond.

As a child, I noted the rust color and was equal parts horrified and enamored of the spot. I usually stay at this spot for at least a half hour to properly take in the beauty and horror.

Upon subsequent visits, the color has faded quite a bit and this makes me a little sad. That childhood belief in this magic place has been disrupted. But I still remember.

Do you?

Tupelo To Me

0

Tupelo is a bustling town full of small town personality. The central point of Tupelo, for me, would have to be Crosstown. This area is always buzzing with people, and I believe it contains the most potential for adventure.

Today, I find myself bumping over the railroad tracks heading downtown. The Old Tupelo Cotton Mill sits off the main road alongside the train tracks, less than a mile from Crosstown. The whistles of the many trains chugging along echo off the walls of the old mill beautifully. I would know, I said, “I Do” to my now husband there last year. Passing by the mill, there’s Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen, famous for its use of local ingredients. Park Heights is close by too, offering tons of great food, and unique seating up on their twinkling rooftop.

I find myself stopping by Crave for a warm Honey Bun Latte and some quality time with my friends, and it just hits the spot. Fair Park is the next stop with its green grass soft enough to run barefoot in. Sometimes when I’m lucky there’s live music to dance to! Eventually, I begin again heading down East Main Street. I pass Rock Star Records; a great place to stock up on vinyl and just ahead, Tupelo Consignment Music, a definite stop for any local musician.

As I drive along, in the distance I can see the huge Tupelo water tower sitting atop the hill that leads further into Tupelo’s residential area. I end my traveling at a little place called The Tupelo Haunted Castle. Come October we will see it full of life every weekend.

Sitting in my car I’m in awe, realizing I live in such an awesome place. It gives me joy knowing I’m so close to rich history, and various cultures. Tupelo is a place to be who I am, a place to share with loved ones. Our Tupelo.

Jeff Jones Eating Out

I love visiting local restaurants — not only for the culinary experience, but also for the beautiful architecture and creativity displayed when walking into the world they’ve created.

Eating out is not just about experiencing new flavors. It’s also about feeding our senses. To be totally immersed in all they have created.

My blog “Eating out with Jeff Jones” didn’t just happen overnight. After participating in many nationally-known restaurant review sites and a few local ones, I felt that something was missing from my experience.

Once I realized what I wanted, I began my journey as a food blogger.

I’ve been having a blast visiting all our great local eateries and sharing with y’all through thorough photos, videos and more. Whatever it takes to convey that perfect meal and moment in time.

My mission is to provide detailed descriptions of our local restaurants and their famous foods. Although my blog is about eating out, it not just about the food. It’s also about the people you meet and places you see along the way. So y’all follow me, and we will take this journey together!

If you have a favorite for me to check out or own a restaurant and would like to show off your famous foods, message me. There is always room in my blog for more local restaurants and their famous foods!

Good Morning Tupelo! It’s a pretty messy Thursday, so watch out for slick spots and debris on the road.
Today is Thursday, November 1st, 2018. It is the 305th day of the year, and there are 60 days left. Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away, in 20 days. There are 50 days until the start of winter, and 55 days till Christmas. Yeah…get that shopping done now.
Here’s a look at the weather, as per WTVA – The Weather Authority
Widespread heavy rainfall will move through the region early this morning with an embedded squall line. This line has the potential to produce strong, damaging straight line winds along with a rogue isolated tornado. These storms will move across the region, likely moving east of US 45 by sunrise. Then they should be out of the region by mid-morning. Once they’re gone, isolated light to moderate showers linger throughout the rest of the day with overcast conditions. Temperatures start out in the upper 60s. But by the late afternoon, we’re likely dropping into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Winds will be breezy out of the northwest later in the day, bringing cooler air to the area by Friday morning.
Food Trucks
Hey, before I get into the list, I have to let you know that Fire & Smoke BBQ/Catering LLC will be out of commission for the near future. A pretty nice job opportunity came up, and so they are shifting the focus to that for now. I’m gonna miss that chicken.

Today is Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018. It is the 296th day of the year and there are 69 days remaining. Halloween is just 8 days away, with Thanksgiving being 29 days out, Winter starting in just 59 days, and Christmas is only 62 days away.

Here’s a quick quote from WTVA – The Weather Authority about this crazy wishywashy weather.

Extra cloud coverage has built into our region early this Tuesday morning. But none of this will bring any rainfall. Temperatures start out a bit warmer, mostly in the mid-40s. Then during the day, this thin cloud coverage will gradually move on out. This will leave us mostly sunny by the afternoon with afternoon highs reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s. Again, no rainfall is anticipated throughout the day.
