We begin our day with perhaps a few isolated showers or even a rumble of thunder. Otherwise, we’re partly to mostly cloudy and very warm. Muggy conditions are also likely with temperatures in the lower to mid-70s. A few may begin in the upper 60s.

Through the day, we’ll see partly cloudy skies remain with a few isolated showers and storms. This will only allow temperatures to reach into the mid and upper 80s. Heat index values reach the lower 90s. A few storms may be strong to severe, mainly over West Tennessee. We will be monitoring any storms for pockets of strong, damaging wind gusts.
MORE HEAT AND HUMIDITY THIS WEEKEND, EARLY NEXT WEEK
Sunshine will be in much more abundance Friday as clouds gradually clear through the morning. Temperatures will be in the mid and upper 60s on Friday morning with afternoon highs reaching the upper 80s. Drier conditions will follow us into the weekend as well. But there will be more sunshine. So highs will be in the lower 90s.
More humidity will join forces with this heat into early next week and mid-week. This will allow for a few spotty showers and storms into the afternoon hours Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 90s with morning temperatures in the lower 70s.

National Hole in my Bucket Day!
May 30, of each year, National Hole in My Bucket Day is observed. This wacky holiday is in honor of the fun children’s song; There’s a Hole in My Bucket.
The song which has origins in 1700 Germany, is about a back and forth conversation between Henry and Liza. Henry needs to fix his leaky bucket. In each stanza, Henry asks Liza for advice. In the end, he needs a bucket to carry water to repair his bucket.
Loomis Day!
Loomis Day is observed annually across the nation on May 30. Washington, DC dentist, Mahlon Loomis, received US patent number 129,971titled “An Improvement in Telegraphing” on wireless telegraphy in July of 1872.
Born on July 21, 1826, Mahlon Loomis was a dentist, the inventor of artificial teeth and one of the earliest inventors of wireless communication. Loomis died on October 13, 1886.
Leading up to his patent, Loomis conducted many experiments in electricity using kites flying miles apart in the mountains of Virginia. Then in 1868 before several scientists and Congressmen, he demonstrated his wireless telegraphic system. While he couldn’t explain how he was able to produce the transmission, he appealed to Congress for an appropriation to incorporate the Loomis Aerial Telegraph Company for research. Senator Charles Sumner introduced the bill, and on May 30 in 1872, the Committee on Commerce reported poorly on the measure. Stripped of its appropriations, it eventually passed in 1873 strictly as a bill of incorporation.

National Mint Julep Day is observed annually on May 30. Each year, people around the country gather for a glass of mint julep! This refreshing southern classic is a traditional drink of the Kentucky Derby.
A classic mint julep is made with a mint leaf, bourbon, sugar and water. In the Southern states, where mint julep is more associated with the cuisine, spearmint is the mint of choice. Preparation of the drink may vary from one bartender to another.
World Multiple Sclerosis Day!
World Multiple Sclerosis Day on May 30th creates an opportunity to boost awareness and connect those with MS to resources and improve support systems.
As one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system, Multiple Sclerosis impacts more than 2.3 million people around the world according to the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation. The term multiple sclerosis means “many scars,” and this term relates to the areas that appear on the brain and spinal cord after the myelin covering our nerves is damaged or dies. The damaged myelin leaves a lesion behind. These lesions are identified by an MRI when symptoms begin to appeal.
The resulting symptoms vary and progress at different rates for each person diagnosed with MS. The disease is unpredictable, progressive and challenging to diagnose. The cause is also unknown.
While there is no cure, treatments are advancing to help slow the progression of MS and reduce the symptoms. As with many conditions, education, research, and funding are necessary.

Kidney Head is a local non-profit organization created by a young man in memory of his father. Bryson Burks has been raising money to help other families with kidney illnesses. He is currently selling t-shirts to raise money for those he helps. Short sleeve shirts are $25.00 and the blue long sleeve is $35.00. All proceeds go toward Kidney Head. They are willing to meet people anywhere to deliver the shirts for cash only. You can donate online and contact them for delivery. National Don’t Fry Day! The National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention declared this day, due to it being before Memorial Day, to encourage sun safety awareness (and to think I thought it was talking about frying chicken) and to remind everyone to protect their skin while enjoying outdoors.
