On This Day
National Audubon Day! Today honors the birth of John James Audubon in 1785. He was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He was noted for his extensive studies of American birds and detailed illustrations of the birds in their natural habitats.
National Richter Scale Day! Today we celebrate the birth of Charles F. Richter in 1900. He was the inventor of the Richter Scale. The scale assigns a number to the magnitude of earthquakes. The Richter scale was developed in the 1930s and is a base-10 logarithmic scale that defines magnitude and logarithm of the ratio of the amplitude of the seismic waves to an arbitrary.
National Kids & Pets Day! Created in 2005 by Celebrity Family & Pet Lifestyle Experty, Colleen Paige, today celebrates the magical bond between children and animals. It also brings awareness to animals in shelters and rescues awaiting new homes. Additionally, it educates the public about the safety between children and pets.
Word of the Day: Flerovium is a super heavy chemical element with an atomic number of 114. It is produced artificially by high-energy atomic collisions.
Quote of the Day: I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples. -Mother Teresa
