Be Kind/Give Back/Pay It Forward

The first and third Monday of the month, Arc of Northeast Mississippi has family bowling at Rebelanes. It is normally $5.00 to bowl (includes everything), but on the 15th, they are having a big fundraiser and charging $10.00 for adults. Kids are free. We are having food and prizes too. They emphasize inclusion of all…and this is a great outing for everyone regardless of disability, or age. Volunteers will be present to help the kids bowl! So this means, parents can enjoy grown up time. Not too bad for having fun for a reasonable price while helping your community!

On This Day

National All is Ours Day! Today is observed to reflect on all of nature’s beauty. There are so many wonders and beauties in the world. The Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Mount Everest, and The Amazon are just a few. Whether it is a forest, flowers, rivers, or mountains, we all have an interests. What is yours?

National Zoo Lovers Day! Today is the perfect day to schedule a trip to your nearest zoo. Have you ever visited Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo? I recently did for my first time. It is absolutely amazing!

National Empanada Day! Empanadas are made by folding dough over a filling. The filling consists of meat, cheese, fruit, or other ingredients. It is then baked or fried. This is popular in Latin American cultures. I love me a caramel empanada! What is your favorite? I have never tried a meat one.

International Romani Day! This is also known as International Roma Day and was declared in 1990. This is to bring awareness to the Romani culture and the issues the Roma people face. It also draws attention to discrimination directed to the Roma and Gypsy communities. This is a call for human rights of all to be respected and observed.

National Library Week! First sponsored in 1958 and sponsored by the American Library Association to recognize the great value we receive from our libraries. This is an observance that libraries across the United States honor. It is normally the second full week of April. Not only do they have books to read, they are also a valuable resource for tools and research. Wake up and read. Go visit your library and check out a book. pay any late fines. Donate all your old books to the library. So, many things to do and promote reading!

National Work Zone Awareness Week! This is an annual Spring campaign held at the start of the construction season. It encourages safe driving through highway work zones. The key message is to use extra caution along work zones while driving. Slow down, stay alert, and watch out. Most of all, drive smart!

National Volunteer Week! A week to observe and thank all the many volunteers across the country. The help to keep organizations going, especially non-profit. They work together to keep our communities safe and provide services that otherwise would not exist without volunteers. So, what can you do to volunteer and help your community. We have several organizations locally: shelters, free clinics, after school programs, schools, pantries, churches, etc. Step up and take your whole family to make a difference.

Word of the Day: Sprunking is the action of beautifying or adorning oneself.
