Denim & Diamonds 2019

0

Saturday April 6th Fulton, MS

For the fourth year in a row, Crossroads Ranch held their primary annual fundraiser, Denim & Diamonds. Hosted at Sheffield Manor in downtown Fulton, the event brings together people from all walks of life to support the Ranch and its work of building housing and jobs for special needs adults.

For those who don’t know, Crossroads Ranch is in the process of building a large number of independent living cabins with built in storm shelters, as well as enhancing the land around the cabins to create an environment that makes these adults comfortable and safe, while giving the freedom to live their own lives. Along with living facilities, there is a working ceramics lodge, where various potteries are produced both to give the residents a chance to work and help support the Ranch.

Fundraising comes not only from the price of Admission, but from several activities held at the event. There was a live auction, a silent auction, a raffle driven wheel of fortune, a wine bottle grab, ring toss, chinese raffle, and an open bar.

D&D this year was at Sheffield Manor, the historic and only recently (5 years ago) remodeled home set on a beautiful farm style lot in the heart of Fulton. There is a home, that is in use most of the year, a barn built solely for entertaining, with a great bar, a stage, seating arrangements, a fireplace. Closer to the house is another entertaining building with open buffet style serving and sitting area.

As always, the event is sponsored at various donation levels by companies and individuals in the community. Under the big tents set between the home and barn, large tables are set aside for the contributors, as well as extra room in and around the tents for all attendees.

Among the items sold at live auction, including paintings and a shotgun, the most popular and by far best deal made, was the brand new Yamaha touring motorcycle with leather saddle bags and a space age helmet. Bids were hot and fast for the bike, and someone went home with a new toy to take some serious pride in.

Raffle tickets were sold for chances to spin the Wheel of Fortune, which had over 20 prizes from local restaurants and retailers, including Blue Canoe, Steele’s Dive, Nautical Whimsy, and many more.

After the buffet style meal and auctions, The Barn opened up for live music and other raffle events with prizes like a “Champaign and Spa” package, dozens of different wines, a yard tool package, and more.

Jason Childers, with a great band backing him up, provided the music for the evening. Selections leaned country and classic rock, but no matter your tastes, there was no denying the joy in the music and the fun had by all. Quite a lot of couples danced the night away.

I don’t yet have final numbers on the amount earned, and I’ll update this article when those are in, but I wanted to get you the info and pictures while it was all fresh.
