On This Day

National Love Our Children Day! This is a day celebrated annually on the first Sunday in April, as an initiative of Love Our Children USA. A day to acknowledge the value of children, to educate parents of the importance of showing love, protection, and respect. We need to strengthen families and spread awareness for efforts to keep our children safe. Go hug your child or a child dear to you. Talk to them and just ask how they are and let them know they are loved!

National Sorry Charlie Day! Today we need to think about the times we have been rejected. This gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we survived the rejection and learned from it. I know I have been rejected many times. I have also reacted several different ways. How can you strengthen your circumstances?

National Caramel Popcorn Day! Popcorn is always better with caramel or lots of butter. Caramel popcorn coated with a sugar or molasses based caramel candy! Grab a movie and some caramel popcorn!

National Student-Athlete Day! Nationally recognized on today but celebrated throughout March and April at NCAA Colleges and Universities. It recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field, and give back to their community. Do you know a student-athlete? Whether he/she is in school or college, congratulate them today!

National Teflon Day! Teflon is a tough synthetic resin made by polymerizing tetrafluroethylene, used coat non-stick cooking utensils and cookware. It is also used to make seals and bearings. It also can refer to an individual who can handle criticism or attack with no effect. I know Teflon makes cooking better. I guess it could make feelings better too especially when it comes to rejection.

National Tartan Day! A celebration of Scottish Heritage, on this day in 1320, which was the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath. This was the Scottish Declaration of Independence. The American Independence was modified from this. It also recognizes the achievements of Americans with Scottish descent. There are typically parades of bag pipes bands, Highland dancing, and Scottish-themed events.

National Poetry Month! The aim of this day is to highlight the legacy and ongoing achievements of American poets. It is to encourage the reading of poems, assist teachers in bringing poetry to their classroom, and encourage support for poets and poetry. Are you a poet or do you know one? Take a minute and write a poem, rhyme, or haiku!

Famous Birthdays- Peyton List turns 21. Todd Chrisley is 50. Merle Haggard (1937-2018) Tom Sawyer is 39. James Watson turns 90. Raphael (1483-1520) Jalen Mills is 25. Sterling Sharpe turns 54. Paul Daniels (1938-2016) Rafael Correa is 56.

Word of the Day: Flagellate is to whip of flog.

Quote of the Day: It is not enough to do good; one must do it the right the way. -John Viscount Morley of Blackburn
